The AI-TPACK learning platform was developed to support Flinders Online learning in the Graduate Certificate in Digital Innovation and AI, offered through the College of Human Sciences and Culture at Flinders University, and to contribute to a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project focused on innovative, evidence-informed approaches to AI-enhanced education. It provides educators and education students with a structured, interactive environment in which to explore how artificial intelligence can be integrated into teaching and learning with purpose, care and professional responsibility. Through the SoTL project, the platform also supports the systematic investigation of student engagement, learning experiences and the effectiveness of interactive AI-TPACK activities, with the aim of informing ongoing curriculum improvement, educator practice and the wider scholarly conversation about responsible AI integration in higher education.
The platform was developed by Dr Zamzami Zainuddin as a practical learning environment in which educators can investigate AI through explanations, scenarios, interactive challenges, reflective activities and applied design tasks. Its purpose is not simply to teach users how to operate AI tools. Instead, it helps educators consider whether, why, when and how AI may support meaningful learning in a particular subject, classroom and educational context.
Building on TPACK
AI-TPACK builds respectfully on the influential Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge framework, commonly known as TPACK. The original framework was developed by Prof Punya Mishra and Prof Matthew J. Koehler of Michigan State University and introduced in 2006. Their work provided educators and researchers with a powerful way to understand the forms of professional knowledge teachers need when integrating technology into instruction.
The original TPACK framework emphasises the relationship between three fundamental areas of teacher knowledge: Technology, Pedagogy and Content. It also highlights the importance of the intersections among these areas and the need to consider the teaching and learning context. This contribution has had a major influence on educational technology research, teacher education and professional learning internationally.
AI-TPACK acknowledges and respects this important foundation. It does not seek to replace the original TPACK framework or diminish the contribution of its developers. Instead, it extends its application to the emerging educational conditions created by artificial intelligence.
What the Platform Explores
In this platform, AI is examined not only as a technological tool. Educators also explore how AI may affect pedagogy, including questioning, feedback, assessment, collaboration, differentiation and learner agency. They consider how AI interacts with content by generating explanations, examples, images, simulations and other representations that must be checked for accuracy, relevance, bias and disciplinary quality.
The platform also introduces important cross-cutting areas that are increasingly necessary in AI-enhanced education. These include ethics, privacy, transparency, accessibility, fairness, academic integrity and human–AI interaction. Particular attention is given to the responsibilities of teachers and learners, the limits of automated decision-making and the need to preserve human judgement, student thinking and professional accountability.

AI-TPACK therefore provides a practical extension of the original framework for educators working in contemporary AI-supported environments. Its central message is that AI integration should remain guided by strong content knowledge, thoughtful pedagogy, appropriate technology selection and careful consideration of context.
The AI-TPACK Quest will continue to evolve in response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence research, educational technologies and professional practice. As new evidence, tools, policies and ethical concerns emerge, the platform’s concepts, activities, examples and guidance may be reviewed, updated or changed. This ongoing development is intended to keep the learning experience current, relevant and responsive to the changing needs of educators and learners. The platform should therefore be understood as a developing educational resource rather than a fixed or final model of AI integration.
